- ChooseBooks
ChooseBooks is a new book search site. Definitely worth checking out.
- The
Advanced Book Exchange Home Page
This is one of the best databases for finding books of modern and
contemporary literature that would otherwise be difficult to locate. The
searchable fields are: author, title, publisher, and keyword.
Additionally, this site lets users limit searches to hard or soft
bindings, first editions, signed copies, and/or examples with a dust
jacket. Finally, this site lets users limit searches to booksellers which
are located in a particular geographic area, belong to the Antiquarian
Booksellers Association of America (or Canada), and books available at
certain book fairs. Overall, I find this to be the best stand-alone
search site.
- Alibris
This database associated with Amazon has a basic search form for
searching for titles and or authors. In addition, this site also
contains an advanced form. This form provides additional searchable
fields, such as subject, ISBN, and general keyword. Aditionally, one can
define publication year spans and year ranges to search. This site also
contains forms to let a user limit a search to examples that have
particular binding type, first editions, and/or signed copies. Another
handy feature is the form element that lets one limit searchs to items
that have been newly posted within the last 14, 7, or 1 days.

Bizrates's rankings of online booksellers
This site evaluates many commercial web sites of many different
categories. One of these categories is online booksellers. The site
not only lists some of the most popular web booksellers, but it also
provides rankings for each. In addition to the general, overall
rankings, they also have quite a few other, more specific rankings.
Examples of the alternate ratings include ease of ordering, product
selection, price, and on-time delivery. The rankings rate
the booksellers in descending order from the best in a certain category
to the worst.
- Bookfinder
Formerly known as MX Bookfinder this site simulateously searches
multiple book databases.
Currently, Bookfinder searches Alibris, Amazon, AntiQbook, Bibliocity,
Powell's Books, and YourBooks.com. The site allows searching by author's
first and/or last name, title, and keywords. Bookfinder also lets users
limit searches to copies with a particular binding, only first editions,
only signed copies, certain price ranges, and to either new or used
copies (since this site also searches stores carrying new books i.e.
Amazon). Another nice feature of this site is the information
it provides after each search, which includes, among other things,
information on whether or not a particular site was searched (if it
wasn't it is typically because it was not responding or taking too
long).

- The
BookWire Index
The BookWire site provides this large index of booksellers, including
brief descriptions of each entry.
- Bibliofind
This is yet another searchable database of many bookdealer's
offerings. Its search features are similar to the others.
- Interloc (now known as Alibris)
- Taugher books
This online bookseller from Belmont California specializing in modern
first editions is one of my favorite dealers.
- Powell's Books
This Portland, Oregon book superstore has a large selection of new
and used books for sale through its web site. Additionally, they have a
convenient 1-800 telephone number.

Book Search Forms
This site (off of Steve Trussel's excellent site) allows the user to
input information into a master form
which is then transferred to other forms allowing searching of the chosen
keywords on the sites listed. This site is useful in that it groups
together many bookseller sites that are not included in the large search
engines. However, the forms do not work flawlessly. They often place
information of any type into the most general, "keyword" field on the
booksellers' forms. The creators of this site are aware of this problem
and thus allow visitors to correct and/or relocate information on any of
the subforms. In addition, this site has links to each bookseller's home
page.

Book Hunter Press
This site lists and provides basic information about the Book
Hunter's Guides. These publications lists and give information on many
book shops around the country. Each book concerns itself with a
particular part of the country (i.e. New England, Midwest). The guides
provide information on a shops location, the emphasis of its collections,
how high or low its prices are, how well it is organized, as well as any
other comments the authors chose to include. Additionally, these books
include driving directions for all shops and basic locator maps showing
the location of the shops found in larger cities.
